Google AdSenseRecommended and Verified

Note: The Recommended and Verified symbol indicates: Recommended and Verified, we have received commission payments from the particular affiliate program.

Google's AdSense program is a pay per click affiliate program - your earnings are based on how many people click on ads that you place on your site.

The ads used in the AdSense program are Google AdWords, which are text adverts (similar to the one displayed at the top of this page, or also shown next to search results at Google itself)

With the AdSense program you do not have direct control over the content of ads displayed on your pages, although you can block competitors' URLs from appearing on your site. Instead, Google's software reviews your web pages and tries to find relevant matching ads automatically.

However, you do get to choose the size and appearance/color of the ad box from a range of options.

While it is not possible to directly influence how revenue the ads generate, there are things that you can do which may indirectly affect your results:
  1. You could experiment with different sizes and appearances/colors for your ads, to see if this improves your click-thru rate (the percentage of visitors clicking on the ads on your site).

    For example:
    1. A very simple (and minor) color change on one of our sites more than doubled the percentage of people clicking the ads.
    2. On another of our sites, redesigning the layout of the site and switching to a larger and better positioned AdSense box, increased the percentage click-thru, by several fold.

  2. The amount that you receive for each person clicking on the ads, does vary depending on the particular ad. For example, ads on some topics tend to generate more revenue than ads on other topics. Thus, as the ads are chosen automatically by Google based on your web pages' content, it helps if you site is about topic which attracts higher paying ads.
