Note: The symbol indicates: Recommended and Verified, we have received commission payments from the particular affiliate program.
Amazon.com's affiliate program (they call it "associate program")
is a pay per sale affiliate program that allows
you to earn money by helping Amazon sell books and the other stuff they
sell (which includes software, computers, electronics. videos, DVDs, music CDs, and a lot more).
Because Amazon.com has such a wide range of products that you can link to, their
affiliate program is a good choice to fill-out almost any web site.
Amazon.com pays commissions up to quarterly (four times per year), provided
you reach the minimum payment amount - if you don't, your commissions are carried
over into the next quarter.
Unlike some affiliate programs Amazon.com does not give you commission if a
visitor bookmarks their site and later return. Instead, you only earn
commission if a visitor buys in the same browser session open from your link.
This feature of their affiliate program does tend to put some affiliates
off - and while it is a limitation, my experience is that even so, affiliates
can generate reasonable commissions from Amazon.
Amazon.com also has a very sophisticated "Web Services" interface
which can be accessed using scripts. This includes a
data feed allowing affiliates
to build content and maintain current ads with ease.
(To use the data feed, you will need a script/software of some sort,
such as,
our own Piranha Feed
PHP Script, or
Cusimano's CGI Script).
Finally, I should point out (to avoid any confusion!) that Amazon's International
sites (UK, Germany, Japan, etc.) run their own separate affiliate programs.
While these generally follow a broadly similar pattern to the Amazon.com
program, the details do vary, so check the particular country's Amazon web site
if you want information on these.
