Easy Ways to Increase Your Affiliate Profits
Everybody who joins an affiliate program does it to make money - and many
in fact do. Sometimes affiliate marketing is a person's part-time hobby
to pull-in a little extra pocket money but in other cases it's a full-time
professional business that generates a small fortune. Whichever description
applies to you, I bet I can make one pretty accurate guess about your
affiliate marketing goals: you'd like to make more money that you are
currently making, especially if you could do so without doing a ton of
extra work!
Here's a few ideas for boosting your commission checks and increasing
your affiliate marketing profits. The trick in all of them is to work
smarter rather than to work harder:
- Choose the Right Products and Affiliate Programs:
I've written about it elsewhere, but choosing
the right products and affiliate programs really is a key element of your success. This is because the most profitable
affiliate programs can generate many times as much profit, from the same visitors, as less
profitable programs. So how do you do it? Well, I recommend reading what I've written
specifically on that topic, but it
boils down to using all the information that is available to you (especially statistics from your site) and doing your
own testing - don't assume that following the crowd is a good way to go.
- Collect Email Addresses: Many people find that starting an email newsletter ("ezine")
is one of the best things that they've ever done. This is because it provides multiple opportunities to sell to the
same person, even after they've finished surfing your website. Of course, your email newsletter needs to be non-spam and
100% opt-in. Ask your visitors to join your newsletter, send them useful information
rather than just bombarding them with ads, and you might be surprised how profitable it can be.
- Use Incentives: When you ask or suggest to people a particular course of action, particularly people who
simply happen to be visiting your website, the most common response is "What's in it for me?". Provide
an incentive, something that people want, and you might be surprised what you can get. Instead of simply asking
people to subscribe your email newsletter, you could offer
them a free eBook if they do subscribe. Likewise,
you could give people a copy
of a resell rights eBook when they buy through your
affiliate link - Please note: not
all affiliate programs tell you who has bought from you, or allow this, so check the details
and rules of whichever affiliate programs you're using.
- Ask for Higher Commissions: If you're a successful top producing affiliate, many merchants will be prepared
to go the extra mile to incentivize and retain you. Have you tried asking for higher commissions? The worst that
can happen is to say no.
- Re-use Your Content: Content is the fuel that drives affiliate marketing, but can take a lot of time, effort
and sometimes money to create. You can maximize your Return On Investment ("ROI") from your content,
by re-using in multiple ways - use it on websites, in your
email newsletter, in article marketing, in
free eBooks, etc. Rewording and rearranging your content (and avoiding
search engine penalties for duplicate content) is a lot cheaper than writing new content from scratch. And don't
forget, there's nothing to stop you translating your own content, or even creating a video (post it on YouTube!) or podcast of you reading
the content out.
